Narrative
ELIZABETH, NJ – One man died, and another sustained injuries Tuesday when a vehicle crashed into a gym in Elizabeth.
The accident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the Planet Fitness on Newark Avenue on the north side of the city.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a 69-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle and drove through the front windows of the gym, hitting a 72-year-old man.
The elderly victim died from injuries sustained in the accident.
Another man sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
Officials closed the Planet Fitness to assess for damage; it’s unclear when the gym will re-open.
A full investigation is underway.
