Narrative

HAWTHORNE, NJ – Police are searching for the driver responsable for a fatally striking an elderly man in south Hawthorne on Wednesday night.

Investigators say Joe Bender, 83, was hit while walking in the area of Wagaraw Road and Passaic Street.

Bender was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries later on.

It is unclear whether any arrests have been made at this time. However, police believe the suspect vehicle to be a gray 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
