Narrative
FAIR LAWN, NJ – A 30-year-old pedestrian died, and his father was hurt when a vehicle struck them at a busy Fair Lawn intersection Sunday.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cedar Street and Maple Avenue, which is just south of Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum.
Police say the man and his 61-year-old father were attempting to cross Maple Avenue after leaving the Knights of Columbus. It is unclear if the two men were utilizing a designated crosswalk.
Authorities identified the victim as Matthew W. Ritter. They say Ritter died after transport to a local hospital. His father went to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
It is unclear at this time if the vehicle in volved in the crash remained at the scene to render aid and speak with police.
